iPhone repair for Karon — make one trip do two jobs

Karon is three kilometres of quiet beach and not much of a high street. Anything technical means a trip over the hill anyway — so attach the repair to the Patong errand you were already going to make. Drop the phone, do your shopping, collect it working.

Karon's problem is distance, not difficulty

Karon is the big, calm one. A long sweep of beach, low-rise resorts, families who came here precisely because it is not Patong. The trade-off is that Karon has very little in the way of specialist services, and the nearest real commercial centre is over the hill. If you are staying here, you are almost certainly going into Patong at some point this week anyway — for the mall, for dinner, for a night out you will regret.

So do not treat the repair as a separate expedition. Treat it as a stop on a trip you were already making. That single decision turns a broken phone from a lost holiday morning into a twenty-minute detour.

How the drop-and-collect works

1. Message firstModel + what happened
2. Drop it on the way in15–20 min from Karon
3. Collect on the way backScreens & batteries: 30–60 min

Telling us the model and the fault before you leave Karon is the part that actually saves you time: it lets us confirm the part is on the shelf, so the trip is one journey rather than two. If you would rather simply wait while we work, that is fine too — screen and battery jobs are short enough to sit through.

Water: the pool, the shore break and the beach bag

Karon's beach shelves steeply and the shore break can be heavy, which is why so many phones from this stretch of coast arrive wet. But the more common culprit is quieter: the resort pool. A child jumps in holding a phone, or it goes off the edge of a sunlounger.

Pool water feels harmless because the phone usually still works afterwards. It is not harmless. Chlorine and dissolved minerals stay behind when the water evaporates, and they keep corroding connectors for days. The classic sequence is a phone that seems fine all week, then loses its speaker, its front camera, or its battery life a fortnight later — long after you have flown home. Sea water is worse and faster: salt is aggressively corrosive, and the first two hours matter more than anything we can do afterwards.

Wet phone, right now: three things

Power it off and leave it off. Do not charge it — that is what kills boards. If it was sea water, rinse the outside with fresh water to stop salt crystallising. Then travel. Liquid-damage treatment is quoted once the phone is open, and the odds are far better on a phone that arrives today than one that arrives on Friday.

The photos matter more than the phone

For families, the real loss is almost never the hardware. It is the week of photos that were not backed up. A black screen or a phone that will not power on does not mean the storage is gone — in many cases the memory is intact even when the display or the board is not. Data recovery is priced case by case, once we can see how much board work is needed first, and the sooner a corroded phone reaches a bench, the more we can get back. If your photos are the priority, say so when you message. It changes how we approach the repair.

Along the coast

Kata is the next beach south with the same trip time. Patong is where the workshop is, and Kamala covers the quieter family stays to the north.

Karon questions: the trip, the pool, the photos

Our workshop is in Patong, not Karon. We would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise. Karon is a long, quiet resort beach with very little in the way of a technical high street, so almost anything specialist means a trip over the hill. It is 15 to 20 minutes by Grab, which is why we suggest attaching the repair to a Patong trip you were probably making anyway.
Yes, and for Karon guests that is often the smartest way to do it. Drop the phone off on your way into Patong, go and do whatever you came to Patong for, and collect it on the way back. Screen and battery work is 30 to 60 minutes, so you rarely need to leave it long. If the repair is bigger, such as liquid damage, leaving it overnight is completely normal and we will agree a collection time before you go.
It is not automatically fine. Pool water is less aggressive than sea water, but it is full of chlorine and dissolved minerals that stay behind once the water evaporates and slowly corrode contacts and connectors. The classic pattern is a phone that works all week, then develops a dead speaker, a failing camera or a phantom battery drain. Power it off, do not charge it, and have it opened and cleaned. We tell you what the board looks like and agree a fixed price with you before any treatment starts.
Often, yes. A black screen does not mean the storage is gone, and in a lot of cases the memory survives when the display or the board does not. The right move is to stop charging it immediately and bring it in fast, because salt corrosion is progressive and every day of delay costs you options. Data recovery is priced once we can see how much work the board needs first, and you decide from there whether it is worth it.
Fifteen to twenty minutes by Grab from most of Karon, a little more from the far southern end of the beach. For a battery, honestly, only make a dedicated journey if the phone is genuinely shutting down on you. Otherwise pair it with a Patong trip. A battery replacement takes 20 to 40 minutes, with the price agreed before we start, so you can drop it off, eat, and collect it working properly.
Yes, iPads and Samsung devices as well as iPhones. Bring them together if you have more than one broken device, because a single trip from Karon covering the whole family's screens is a far better use of a holiday morning than two separate journeys. We will quote each device separately before starting anything.

Going into Patong anyway? Bring the phone.

Message the model and the fault before you leave Karon. We'll confirm the part is in stock so the drop-off is one trip, not two.
